High-pressure briquetting of iron ore fines
GoodRich offers high-pressure briquetting plant from a specialized manufacturer in China, to briquette iron ore fines. These briquettes can be used in the rotary kilns for making sponge iron.
Briquetting is an agglomeration process, similar to pelletizing or sintering, but without the need for thermal processing. Briquetting has several advantages, such as lower agglomeration temperatures, higher flexibility, lower waste generation, lower operating and capital costs and lower pollution, as compared to sintering or pelletisation.
In addition to iron ore fines, briquetting can also be used for bauxite, dolomite, limestone, manganese and chrome ore fines;sponge iron fines etc.
The high-pressure briquetting press lines are available from 30 tons per day to 300 tons per day. The linear pressure between the rollers is from 8,000 – 11,000 kgs/cm and the total briquetting pressure is from 150 to 500 tons. Iron ore fines of 0-2 mm size can be briquetted, without the need forany further grinding.
The strength of briquettes depends on the pressure at which the briquettes are formed, particle size of the raw materials and the binders used. Binders contribute maximum to the hardness of the briquettes. Hence, a combination of hot-setting and cold setting; organic and inorganic binders are used for briquetting.
The investment on the iron ore briquetting plant is Rs. 3 crores for 63 tons per day or Rs. 5 crores for 125 tons per day. The pay-back periods are 1-2 years.
The iron ore briquetting plant can also be used for briquetting the sponge iron fines.
